Kelly Kulick, Patrick Allen Victorious at Maple City Bowl

Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., and Patrick Allen of Mt. Kisco, N.Y., scored victories in the PBA East Region’s doubleheader weekend at Maple City Bowl in Hornell, N.Y.
Kulick won two of her four matches and finished with a 12-game total of 2,579 pins to record a 14-pin victory over Brittni Hamilton of Webster, N.Y., in the PWBA Maple City Dodge East Open on Saturday. Allen won seven of his 12 matches and finished with a 20-game total of 4,667 pins to edge Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, N.Y., by 20 pins in the PBA Maple City Dodge East Open presented by 900 Global on Sunday.
Kulick was the qualifying leader in the women’s regional, but quickly fell out of the lead when she struggled with a 149 in the opening game of the finals. Hamilton, who won her first three matches, held the lead until the final position round match when she lost to Kulick, 177-159. Kulick won $1,500 while Hamilton earned $1,000 as the runner-up.
Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, N.Y., finished fifth, but won the East Region’s season-long PBA Challenge Series points race. As a result, she earns a spot in the PWBA-PBA Women’s Regional Challenge that will be contested during the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., Dec. 18, as well as a paid entry into the World Series itself.
Allen started the PBA Open finals 155 pins behind Ciminelli after qualifying. Ciminelli arrived at the center on Sunday suffering from a stomach virus and struggled in the early matches. After dropping to third going into the final position round match, Ciminelli rallied with a 286 to have a shot at the win, but Allen responded with a 258 final game to hold onto a 20-pin margin of victory. Allen won $2,400 for his 28th career regional title. Ciminelli earned $1,200 as the runner-up.
Next on the schedule is the PBA Bowlers Discount Pro Shop East Open, which is scheduled for October 16-17 at AMF Woodlawn Bowl in Baltimore.
