Kulick, Malott, Mohr Lead World Championship
September 02, 2009

Kelly Kulick and likely PBA Senior Player of the Year Ron Mohr continued their dominance at the 2009 PBA World Championship as both maintained their leads in the event for the third consecutive round on Tuesday, while reigning PBA Player of the Year Wes Malott surged to take the lead previously held by 2009 PBA U.S. Open Champion Mike Scroggins.
Malott, who concluded the third round of qualifying with a 740 series (235, 269, 236), has had just one game below 200 in 18 games of qualifying and now enjoys a 64-pin lead over former PBA Player of the Year Chris Barnes. Among those joining Malott and Barnes in the top 40 are PBA Hall of Famers Brian Voss, Pete Weber and Walter Ray Williams Jr. as well as reigning PBA Rookie of the Year Jason Belmonte.
By far though the story of the 2009 PBA World Championship to this point is Kelly Kulick, who has lead all three rounds of the Women's Series portion of the event and possesses a 101-pin lead over the 2nd-place Shannon Pluhowski. Kulick, the 2007 U.S. Women's Open Champion, is averaging 232 for the event so far and bowled a 300 game in round one.
Ron Mohr, a former member of Team USA and owner of three PBA Senior titles this season alone, leads the Senior portion of the event with a 223 average. PBA Hall of Famers Tommy Baker and Wayne Webb are also in the top ten.
Qualifying resumes Thursday when the top 40 men and the top 20 women and seniors bowl an additional qualifying block of 6 games beginning at 9AM EST.
