RENO, Nev. - Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., continued her dominance at the 2012 Bowling's U.S. Women's Open as she retained the top spot after the third round of qualifying Sunday.

The two-time U.S. Women's Open champion averaged 245 during her six-game block to finish with an 18-game total of 4,294 (238.5 average). Team USA's Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie, Texas, is second with 4,224.

Kulick is feeling at home at the National Bowling Stadium as the field of 202 narrowed to the top 50 competitors for Monday's fourth round. An additional six games will be bowled before the top 16 advance to round-robin match play Monday night.

"Right now my A game is always in play," said Kulick, who rolled her highest six-game block of the event Sunday with 1,470. "I can play straight when I need to, but as soon as I can get left and throw the ball a little right the lanes open up to me and I feel very comfortable."

After being in the same position at the 2011 U.S. Women's Open in Euless, Texas, Kulick knows all she can do now is to try and keep herself in contention throughout match play to make the stepladder finals that will be held on four specially-constructed lanes underneath the famed Reno Arch.

"I had a big lead last year, but it didn't do me any good in the finals," Kulick said. "I'm going to bowl each day, one game at a time and keep myself in contention to make the show. My goal is really just to bowl consistently until I get to that position and try to really come into my own out there."



Missy Parkin of Lake Forest, Calif., is sitting third with 4,178, Team USA's Shannon O'Keefe is fourth at 4,159 and Lynda Barnes of Double Oak, Texas, rounds out the top five with 4,149.

The cut number to make the cashers qualifying round was 3,810 (211.67 average), which was a tie between USBC Hall of Famer Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev., and Team USA member Tammy Turner of North Ogden, Utah.

After the top 50 bowlers finish their six-game block Monday afternoon, the field with be cut to the top 16 for 16 additional games of round-robin match play, which begins Monday evening. The five players who remain at the top of the standings after 40 total games will advance to Wednesday's television finals, which will be broadcast July 3 at 8 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

SANDELIN STILL ROLLING AT SENIOR U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

For the third straight round, Lucy Sandelin of Tampa, Fla., found herself at the top of the leaderboard at the Senior U.S. Women's Open on Sunday.

The USBC Hall of Famer paced the field with an 18-game total of 3,939 as the field is cut to the top 15 competitors. The 1989 U.S. Women's Open champion, Robin Romeo of Newhall, Calif., and USBC Hall of Famer Jeanne Naccarato of Tacoma, Wash., are second and third with 3,826 and 3,763, respectively.

An additional six games will be take place on Monday before the top eight players return to take part in round-robin match play to determine who makes the stepladder finals.
