Las Vegas bowler takes lead in Standard Singles at 2026 Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Chris Vittorino of Las Vegas posted a career-best performance at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on Saturday to take the lead in Standard Singles.

The 35-year-old right-hander rolled games of 215, 277 and 230 for a 722 series at the National Bowling Stadium, moving past previous leaders Tim Tuttle Sr. of Muskegon, Michigan, and Rob Spivey of Erlanger, Kentucky, at 694.

Vittorino said preparation and a shared game plan with his teammates were key.

“We were all on the same page,” said Vittorino, who made his fifth appearance at the USBC Open Championships. “In practice, we decided to throw really sanded equipment up the five board to create some wiggle room.”

The approach helped Vittorino manage the lane conditions throughout the set.

“This is the best I’ve ever bowled at nationals,” he added.

Vittorino added sets of 568 in doubles and 538 in team, bringing his all-events total to 1,828 and moving him into second place overall. Brent DeCheney of Muskegon, Michigan, leads Standard All-Events at the 2026 event with 1,834.

The Standard Division includes bowlers with entering averages of 161-181.

The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
