Live stream doubleheader scheduled for BowlTV
April 29, 2013
RENO, Nev. -
BowlTV will be the place to be on Wednesday, May 1, for an exciting live stream doubleheader from the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships that will appeal to sports fans and bowling fans alike.
The extended coverage from the National Bowling Stadium will begin at 10 p.m. EDT as National Football League star and bowling enthusiast Terrell Owens marches down the famed Center Aisle to make his USBC Open Championships debut.
Owens has been active in the Professional Bowlers Association this season as the celebrity owner of the Dallas Strikers, one of eight five-player teams in the new PBA League. The league combined traditional team bowling with top-level competition and has been a regular part of the PBA television schedule this season.
With Owens on their sideline along the way, the Dallas Strikers (Bryon Smith, Amleto Monacelli, Rhino Page, Mike Machuga, Norm Duke and Mike Wolfe) finished third in their quest for the inaugural Elias Cup.
Owens has played in the Super Bowl, and now he'll experience the one-of-kind NBS. He has been coached by Duke, a 37-time PBA Tour titlist, and will test his skills on bowling's biggest stage on the Bowlers Journal team alongside PBA Commissioner Tom Clark, Mike Jakubowski and Jason Thomas, who are the on-air talent for Xtra Frame, the PBA's online bowling channel and Open Championships titlist Ed Baur.
Following Owens and his team event, three-time Open Championships winner Matt McNiel of Prior Lake, Minn., will hit the lanes for doubles and singles.
McNiel is the defending Regular All-Events champion at the event, while he and Charles Vashaw of Deephaven, Minn., are the defending Regular Doubles champions.
McNiel, who also won the 2010 all-events title with a record score of 2,326, provided some live-stream fireworks in 2011 and 2012 with perfect games both years and series of 822 and 847, both in doubles, respectively.
The 27-year-old left-hander is the only person in tournament history with three 800s on the championship lanes (he had 806 in singles in 2010), and he's looking to become the first bowler to claim back-to-back all-events titles. He also is the tournament's 2, 3, 4, and 5-year average leader.
