Mandy Wilson takes Senior Queens lead

ARLINGTON, Texas - Mandy Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, surged into the lead after the second round Saturday at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Senior Queens presented by Storm.

Mandy Wilson 2012 Senior QueensWilson, who sat in third after the opening round, leads the 56-player field with a 10-game total of 2,265 (226.5 average) at the International Training and Research Center.

"My goal is to try and stay in the top three going into match play," Wilson said. "Usually it seems like I am right around the cut number and have to bowl the higher seeds, so I want to try and be as high as possible this time."

After opening the tournament with 1,143 in Friday's first round, Wilson put together a five-game block of 1,122 on games of 220, 235, 248, 198 and 221.

Char Hammel of Las Vegas, who won the 2010 Senior Queens, sits in second place with 2,254, while USBC Hall of Famer Robin Romeo of Van Nuys, Calif., is third with 2,182.

All participants will bowl 15 games of qualifying over three days before the field is cut to the top 15 plus defending champion Paula Vidad of Sun City, Calif., for the double-elimination match-play bracket starting Monday.

BowlTV is providing free live streaming coverage of every round of the competition, concluding with the four-player stepladder finals Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Eastern.

The Senior Queens also caps off the Senior Women's Triple Crown Series, which is a special competition for bowlers who compete in the Senior Queens, Senior U.S. Women's Open and National Golden Ladies Classic.

The top 10 players in the Triple Crown standings, which combines qualifying totals from all three events, will take part in the Triple Crown Shoot-Out presented by The Orleans live on BowlTV on Sunday at 5 p.m. Eastern.

With five games remaining, Romeo leads in the Triple Crown standings with 9,546, while Lucy Sandelin of Tampa, Fla., is second with 9,426.
