Fresh off her victory Saturday in the H.H. Emir Cup in Doha, Qatar, former Wichita State University star Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia carried her bid for a second straight World Bowling Tour title into Friday’s elimination rounds of the 13th Kingdom of Bahrain International Open in Sitra, Bahrain, as top qualifier by 62 pins over 2014 PBA Rookie of the Year Marshall Kent of Yakima, Wash.

Roumimper, who received 7 handicap pins per game as a woman participant, finished the qualifying round at Ozone Entertainment Centre with a 12-game total of 2,826 pins. Kent had a 2,764 total. Also among the top six qualifiers who earned byes all the way to Round 5 were Tim Mack, Indianapolis; Venezuela’s Ildemaro Ruiz; Kuwait’s Kahled Al Dubyyan and Bahrain’s Yousif Falah. The Indonesia star won the H.H. Emir Cup last Sunday when she defeated Qatar’s Khaled Al-Dossari, 516-430, in the two-game title match.

Men and women in Bahrain are competing for World Bowling Tour points on a rolling two-year points list that will result in the top three in each division competing in the World Bowling Tour Finals presented by PBA at the 2015 PBA World Series of Bowling VII in Las Vegas next fall. In addition, a PBA Tour title will be awarded to the winner if he is a PBA member (all women finalists in Bahrain are accepting the traditional 7 handicap pins per game, which makes them ineligible for PBA title consideration).

Here’s how Bahrain Open format works: The top six players, including one Bahraini, automatically advance to Friday’s Round 5. Qualifiers 7-12 advance to Round 4. Qualifiers 13-18 advance to Round 3. Qualifiers 19-30, including two Bahrainis and one woman, will begin Friday’s competition in Round 2. Each six-game round will begin from scratch; no carryover pins, but the women finalists receive 7 handicap pins per game. The top six after rounds 2 through 4 will advance to the next round along with higher qualifiers; the top 4 after Round 5 will advance to the semifinals:
