Michigan bowler achieves dream, rolls perfect game at 2021 USBC Open Championships

LAS VEGAS - Edward Burbo achieved a dream of rolling a 300 game on one of bowling's biggest stages when he tossed 12 consecutive strikes Saturday at the 2021 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.
The 37-year-old right-hander from Belleville, Michigan, became the 10th bowler to achieve the feat this year in Las Vegas, and his came in his final game of doubles at the South Point Bowling Center.
Burbo started the set with games of 209 and 236, and he ended with a 745 series. His previous high series during doubles at the USBC Open Championships was 718.
"It's the biggest bowling stage that there is," said Burbo, who bowls at Flat Rock Lanes in Flat Rock, Michigan. "It's something you always dream about doing."
Burbo partnered with William Jackson of Westland, Michigan, who added a 531 series to the duo's 1,276 doubles total. They are just outside the top 50 in Regular Doubles, which is led by Wisconsin's Jonathan Schalow and Chad Svendsen (1,436).
This year's Open Championships marked Burbo's 18th appearance, but it was his first with a new group of teammates.
It didn't seem to take long for hit to fit in and contribute, as he helped Ansara Restaurant Group 4 of Clinton Township, Michigan, make a run Friday in Regular Team.
Past Eagle winner DJ Archer of Spring, Texas, had a chance to lift the team into the top spot but left a 10 pin on the first shot of his final frame.
His 722 series led the group to games of 1,065, 1,087 and 1,191 for a 3,343 total. Archer was joined by Jeremy Dixson (702), Burbo (672), Michael Calhoun (628) and William Jackson (619).
Burbo finished his 2021 Open Championships campaign with a 670 series in singles for a 2,087 all-events total, which is 10th in Regular All-Events.
The Bowlers Shoppe 1 of St. Louis leads Regular Team this year with 3,352, and Team USA member Michael Martell of Brooklyn, New York, leads Regular All-Events with 2,194.
