Minn. bowler wins Fantasy Camp vote
June 01, 2011
Chuck Hayslett of Apple Valley, Minn., is the second United States Bowling Congress Sport Bowling member to win an expenses-paid trip to the International Training and Research Center in the Team USA Fantasy Camp contest.
Hayslett received 8,754 of the 20,873 total votes in recent fan voting on BOWL.com to beat out David Lance of Merritt Island, Fla., Tom Walker of Crestview, Fla., and Rick Riddle of Palatine, Ill., and earn the second of six spots that will be awarded in the contest.
"I'm very happy to win," Hayslett said. "I had a good feeling about it. I was hopeful because of all the good bowlers in Minnesota, once they learned about it. And I have a lot of family. It was more stunning I was picked as a finalist."
The four finalists became eligible by bowling a single game of 200 or higher in their USBC Sport Bowling league and then going on BOWL.com to enter the contest. The four bowlers were randomly selected from those who entered for the opportunity to win a trip to the ITRC. This year, a total of six winners will receive trips to the ITRC where they will train with Team USA coaches and then take on six members of Team USA in a special competition broadcast live on BOWL.com.
Hayslett entered one of his scores from his Twin Cities Sport League at Country Club Lanes in Tonka Bay, Minn. He finished with a 201 average in the league this season, the first time he as finished higher than 200 in a Sport Bowling league, and is looking forward to the chance to work on his game at the ITRC.
"I'm excited and I have a year to get ready," Hayslett said. "They have some of the greatest coaches and equipment in the game. I've been told my physical game is good and hopefully we can look at the things that can take me to the next level."
The Team USA Fantasy Camp contest is open to any USBC Sport Bowling member who bowls a 200 game or higher in their USBC Sport Bowling certified league. After shooting a qualifying score, bowlers can enter by visiting BOWL.com/sportbowling. Visit the Sport Bowling page on BOWL.com for complete information on the contest.
The ITRC is home to Team USA and Junior Team USA. With state-of-the-art tools and cutting-edge coaching technologies, it is one of the top training facilities in the bowling industry. Training tools include high-speed video cameras, motion-capture devices, foot-pressure sensors and goggles enhanced with cameras to show exactly where a player is looking during the approach and delivery. A DVR system can record any video feed to let a bowler see what they did on their last shot as soon as they step off the lane.
