Missouri youth to receive Zeb Scholarship

ARLINGTON, Texas - Dakota Fox of Palmyra, Mo., has been selected as the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Annual Zeb Scholarship recipient.

The $2,500 scholarship is awarded each year to a USBC Youth member who is in their junior or senior year of high school, has a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) and has given back to their community through service. The award winner is determined by the USBC Youth Committee.

Dakota Fox1"I am truly honored to be the 2013 Zeb Scholarship recipient," Fox said. "I take pride in knowing that it is partially based on giving back to the community. I am a firm believer in volunteerism. I am excited to be able to begin my college career with receiving this scholarship."

Fox is completing his senior year at Palmyra High School. He will attend the University of Missouri-Columbia in the fall and major in chemical engineering.

A member of the National Honor Society and the Society for Academic Achievement, Fox has taken part in the Science Olympiad the last five years and took first in Technical Problem Solving and Chemical Lab at the Missouri Region II Finals this year. He also participates in band, earning all-conference selection in 2011-2012, and is a member of the golf team.

Fox, who bowls in the Palmyra Majors league at Pal Bowl in Palmyra, has volunteered at the local food pantry and helped with Vacation Bible School at his church. Currently, he works two days a week helping the local cemetery association transfer names and plot numbers from their record books to electronic storage.

The USBC Annual Zeb Scholarship is named for Jim Zebehazy, who served as executive director of the Young American Bowling Alliance from 1996-2004 and first was presented in 2005. Zebehazy currently is a Regional Manager for USBC.

As this year's recipient, Fox will receive an expenses-paid trip to attend the awards ceremony that will be held in conjunction with the North Pointe Junior Gold Championships in the Detroit area in July.
