New York group takes over Team All-Events at 2024 Open Championships

LAS VEGAS – An incredible display of striking during singles competition at the 2024 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships helped push the members of Maximum Potential Pro Shop of Rome, New York, to the lead in Team All-Events on Monday with a 10,032 total.

The team posted a 3,624 total during singles to average more than 241 as a unit in its final three games at the South Point Bowling Plaza to become the first team to surpass the 10,000 mark at the 2024 event. Trip 4 Pro Shop of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, previously led with 9,970.

David Jecko at the 2024 USBC Open ChampionshipsDavid Jecko led the way for Maximum Potential Pro Shop and moved into second place in Regular All-Events with a 2,217 total. He had sets of 781 in doubles, 781 in singles and 655 in team, and his effort in doubles also included the second 300 game of his career at the USBC Open Championships. Derek Magno of Cicero, New York, took the lead in Regular All-Events on Friday with 2,255.

Jecko was joined in the performance by Steven Arehart (2,051), Raymond Cyr (1,961), Lawrence Porter (1,961) and Josh McClusky (1,790).

The team moved into the top 15 of Regular Team on Sunday with a 3,117 total, and Jecko helped power the group to a 3,291 total in doubles to set the stage for the run in singles, while he and Arehart (640) moved into sixth place in Regular Doubles with 1,421.

Jecko’s 781 helped him take over fourth place in Regular Singles, and Arehart had 772 to move into seventh place. Cyr had 733, Porter posted 708 and McClusky finished with 630.

Trip 4 Pro Shop leads Regular Team with 3,363, and Shawn Evans and Nicholas Fisher of Palm Bay, Florida, hold the top spot in Regular Doubles with 1,531. Joe Barket of Morro Bay, California, leads Regular Singles with 806.

The team’s last visit to the Bowling Plaza in 2022 featured several top 10s, including seventh place in Team All-Events (10,140).

Jecko and Arehart finished fourth in Regular Doubles in 2022 with a 1,485 total, and Jecko was fifth in Regular All-Events with 2,212. The group finished in the top 30 of Regular Team with 3,335.

Jecko’s 300 in 2022 came during his final game of singles for a 788 series (12th place), and he’s now one of 41 bowlers in tournament history to record multiple perfect games on the tournament lanes.

The 2024 Open Championships got underway Feb. 23 and will run through July 29 at the South Point Bowling Plaza. The tournament is scheduled to feature more than 11,000 teams and 55,000 bowlers making their way to compete in Las Vegas.
