Winners selected in US Bowler writing contest

The winners in the two categories of the 2010 US Bowler Writing Competition have been selected.

The 59th annual contest, presented by the membership magazine of the United States Bowling Congress, featured news/feature and editorial categories. Three winners were selected in each category and each winner will receive a certificate suitable for framing and a paid one-year membership in the Bowling Writers' Association of America.

In the News/Feature category, for non-fiction stories concerning any individual, facility, equipment or organization related to tenpin bowling involvement, or coverage of a bowling tournament or event, the winners are:

* Fred Groh, International Bowling Industry, for his feature on Professional Bowlers Association CEO and Commissioner Fred Schreyer.
* Jeff Richgels, Bowlers Journal International, for his article on the lane pattern problems at the 2009 PBA Regional Players Invitational.
* Daniel P. Smith, Bowling Center Management, for his article on the impact of bowling video games on the industry.


In the Editorial category, for any opinion expressed in the media concerning a tenpin bowling-related subject, the winners are:

* Richard Berman, Bowling Center Management, for a column on bowling and fitness.
* Bob Johnson, Bowlers Journal International, for a column on bowling lounges.
* Michael Mazek, Bowling Center Management, for a column on fan noise in the sport of bowling.

To be eligible for the competition, articles must have been published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2010. Materials that appeared in US Bowler, US Youth Bowler or on BOWL.com were not eligible.
