July 05, 2024
LAS VEGAS – Bob Benton of Huntersville, North Carolina, helped to kick-start an electric team squad at the 2024 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships on Tuesday, firing 300 during his second game.
The 34-year-old right-hander started his team set with 201 before connecting for 12 strikes in Game 2, and he added 229 to close the series with 730. His effort helped Huntersville’s #HitMenWinEverything post a 3,188 total in Regular Team, which currently sits in the top 30 at the 2024 event.
Benton’s 300 was followed by a 1,227 final tally in Game 2 by the members of Before the 1st Frame #4 – part of Benton’s group at the USBC Open Championships and bowling one pair to the left at the South Point Bowling Plaza.
Before the 1st Frame #4 used the momentum of that performance to take the lead in Regular Team with a 3,373 total.
Benton has been part of several strong groups over the course of his 13 years at the Open Championships, and although he’s still searching for his first victory at the event, his 2024 appearance resulted in several personal bests on the tournament lanes.
The 730 series in team marked his highest three-game set at the tournament, and he also posted his top all-events score to conclude the 2024 event. He added 663 in singles and 660 in doubles for a 2,053 total at the Bowling Plaza.
Prior to his time at the Open Championships, he also made a run at perfection during a squad at the Bowlers Journal Championships, contested at the 64-lane South Point Bowling Center.
Benton rolled games of 224 and 268 before finishing with 299 for a 791 series, which currently places him in the top 10 for Open Singles, Open Doubles (with Kip Roberts of Glen Allen, Virginia) and the tournament’s dual entry prize fund.
