Paeng Nepomuceno, a United States Bowling Congress coach, International Ambassador for Bowling and four-time World Cup champion, recently concluded a Tri Level (Level I, Bronze and Silver) USBC Coaching conference in Singapore.

Nepomuceno, a Hall of Famer, whose huge picture is prominently displayed at the entrance of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, held the coaching conference at the Singapore Chevrons Bowling Center from July 30 to Aug. 1.

This is the fourth year Nepomuceno has certified coaches for USBC in Singapore. It was the first time Nepomuceno used the updated version of the Silver seminar since his February visit to update the coaching modules at the state of the art headquarters of USBC in Arlington, Texas.

It was also the first time, due to schedule constraints, that Nepomuceno did the seminars back-to-back, doing both Level 1 and Bronze Level and Silver Level Seminars on the same three days, starting at 9 a.m. and ending the seminar day at 9:30 p.m. Nepomuceno said the schedule was grueling, but all the material relevant to the seminars was covered, which Nepomuceno later said was largely credited to the discipline and prompt attendance of the participating Singaporean coaches.

Aloysius Pek of Alfinity Bowling Academy, organizer of the seminar, found that the new Silver Seminar was much more detailed and designed to give better technical support to the coaches.

Coaches that passed and were certified at the conference were:

Bronze: Benny Tan, Shen Han Qing Moses, Richard Tan Sok Pin, Lee Feng Chen, Kenneth Chua

Silver: Christopher Lee Wen Jun, Ken Tan Yuan Hung, Doreen Pang Kim Chin, Koh Wei Ping Alvin, Patrick Lim Kwee Hong and Benedict Tan Tat Poh

"I think that the seminar went well," said Nepomuceno. "I am enjoying my role as teacher and enjoy even more the fact that I am doing my bit to promote the sport of bowling, which hopefully will soon take its rightful place in the Olympic roster."

The left-handed Philippine bowling legend, who has won 120 bowling titles worldwide, teamed up with USBC in early 2007 to promote the sport of bowling worldwide.

As a USBC Coaching Instructor, Nepomuceno teaches Level I, Bronze and Silver classes worldwide. The coaches he trains and certifies through the USBC program will develop bowlers in the region, with the hope that some will become top-level competitors.

Nepomuceno's certification is part of USBC’s effort to create an international coach training program and bolster the strength of federations within bowling's world governing body, the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs. As part of that international strategy, USBC is developing more online coach training with the overall goal to expand USBC's reach globally through information and education. The USBC Coaching program, which professionally trains and certifies coaches to teach the sport of bowling, currently has tremendous respect as it is the only bowling coaching program for bowling recognized by the United States Olympic Committee.
