Palermaa is March Bowler of Month

ARLINGTON, Texas - Osku Palermaa, Finland, has been named the March 2012 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America.

Palermaa won the first PBA international title, the 9th Kuwait International Open defeating top-seeded Tom Smallwood, of Saginaw, Michigan, in a two game match, 276-232 and 268-226. This is his second win this season and third career PBA title.

The 5-man stepladder finals opened with #5 seed Ronnie Russell, Indianapolis, Indiana, downing #4 seed Martin Larsen, Sweden, 250-226. Number 3 seed Palermaa beat Russell, 234-230. Palermaa defeated #3 seed Wu Siu Hong, Hong Kong, 278-237. Palermaa then needed to win two games against the top-seed Smallwood for the title.

Palermaa, the Finnish 2008 and 2009 Bowler of the Year, was coming off a win over fellow countryman Perttu Jussila, 289-255, in the Kingdom of Bahrain Open just 10 days earlier.

This was the first tournament under the new alliance between the PBA Tour and the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA). PBA tour players can now earn PBA titles by bowling in WTBA World Bowling Tour events.

Others receiving votes were Mike Fagan, winner of the Brunswick Euro Challenge; Chris Barnes, winner of the WTBA International Open, and Norm Duke, winner of the PBA Detroit open presented by Track.
