Patrick Allen Leads Oklahoma Open After First Match Play Round

PAThirteen-time PBA Tour winner Patrick Allen of Mount Kisco, N.Y., was the first round leader of two of the Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Hotel & Resort PBA Summer Swing events only to drop out of contention for a stepladder spot after the final round.

Allen, who eventually finished sixth in the Wolf Open and eighth in the Badger Open after leading the first round of those events, hopes to make it stick this time in the Oklahoma Open leading after the first round of match play Thursday at FireLake Bowling Center.

Allen went 4-2 in this morning’s round and finished with a 5,775 pinfall total (including bonus pins) on the 32-foot Wolf Open lane condition to lead Bill O’Neill of Langhorne, Pa. who also went 4-2 and finished the round second 131-pins behind with 5,644.

Allen is hoping to break a six-year drought in which he has not won a Tour title, his latest coming in the 2009 Dydo Japan Cup.

Rounding out the top five were Jason Belmonte of Australia in third with 5,581, and J.R. Raymond, Bay City, Mich., and Dom Barrett of England tied for fourth with 5,494.

All of the 18 finalists earned their spots in the Oklahoma match play rounds through their aggregate first round qualifying pinfall totals in the Summer Swing Wolf, Bear and Badger Opens.

Match play continues at 2 p.m. CT on the 40-foot Bear Open lane condition and concludes this evening at 6:30 p.m. on the 52-foot Badger lane condition which will determine the top five players for the Oklahoma Open stepladder finals.

Today’s match play concludes the fourth of five events that comprise the 2015 Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Hotel & Resort PBA Summer Swing. All five events (Wolf, Bear, Badger and Oklahoma Opens plus the Grand Casino Resort King of the Swing) will be taped by the CBS Sports Network Saturday and Sunday at the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Event Center.
