PBA Adds Multi-Event South Point Bowling Plaza Fall Classic to 2015 Schedule

The Professional Bowlers Association will return to South Point Bowling Plaza Oct. 19-26 with a new PBA South Point Bowling Plaza Fall Classic program, featuring an all-new PBA Team Challenge; qualifying and match play rounds of the Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship; and a new PBA Tour title event, the PBA Xtra Frame South Point Las Vegas Open.

The new competition program for South Point became possible when the PBA moved the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII, originally scheduled for South Point, to the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., to take advantage of a unique, live, prime-time ESPN telecast slot on Thursday, Dec. 17 for the PBA World Championship.

Monyak Mike Monyak, Director of Bowling Operations at South Point

“The PBA is thrilled to be able to stage this exciting series of events in the new South Point Bowling Plaza,” PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark said. “South Point has been a great partner to the PBA and working with Director of Bowling Operations, Mike Monyak, to launch a new PBA team event in addition to two PBA Tour title events in the new Plaza will be awesome for the best bowlers in the world, the bowling fans in Las Vegas and a worldwide audience on Xtra Frame.”

The Fall Classic will feature a new five-player team competition, qualifying and match play rounds of the Roth/Holman Doubles Championship, and the PBA Xtra Frame South Point Las Vegas Open, a PBA Tour title event. All competition except for the PBA Doubles Championship finals, which will be added to the GEICO WSOB VII ESPN television lineup in Reno, will be covered live on PBA’s Xtra Frame online video-streaming service.

Also as part of the PBA Fall Classic and the Xtra Frame coverage schedule, the PBA West Region will conduct a PBA South Point West Challenge tournament for players who have never won a PBA title on Friday, Oct. 23, and a PBA50 Western Open for players 50 and older on Monday, Oct. 26. Bowlers can enter those events through the PBA West Region.
