Retro Roll: 1966 World Cup
May 06, 2011
With Team USA Camp wrapping up this week and the PABCON Men's Championships on the way, we take a look back at an international bowling event from 1966.
1966 was a year that USBC Hall of Famer John Wilcox will never forget. Wilcox followed up an All-Events title at the 1966 USBC Open Championships with two gold medals at the Tournament of the Americas in Miami. Then came the feat featured in the video below, when he won a World Cup title at Wembley Stadium in London at just 19 years of age. Wilcox would go on to enjoy continued success at the Open Championships, record an 885 series that stood as the best three-game set for left-handers for more than two decades, and earn an induction into the USBC Hall of Fame in 1999.
