In this eighth installment of a weekly series taking a look back at historical moments from various USBC Championship events over the years, we revisit the 1965 USBC Masters, where Billy Welu became just one of two players ever to win the event back to back. The only other player to do so was Dick Hoover (1956 and 1957), and no one has done so again since Welu successfully defended his title 46 years ago.

As the defending champion, Welu knew there was much more than mere money on the line when he faced Don Ellis for the 1965 Masters title.
