Samuels and Anderson take lead in doubles at 2025 Open Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. – Nathan Samuels and Scott Anderson delivered down the stretch during their final game of doubles Monday at the 2025 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships to take over the top spot in the Regular Division with a 1,483 combined total.
They rolled 21 strikes across 24 deliveries in their final game at the Raising Cane’s River Center to combine for 546 to close their series, with Anderson going for 279 and Samuels adding 267.
Entering the final frame, both Samuels and Anderson needed the first strike for the opportunity to take the lead, and at least one of them needed a double. The talented right-handers both struck out to secure the top spot by 15 pins.
Three-time Eagle winner Jay Lang of Sterling Heights, Michigan, and two-time champion Ronnie Sparks Jr. of Redford, Michigan, had held the lead in Regular Doubles since April 11 with 1,468.
Samuels, of Pompano Beach, Florida, led the way Monday with games of 216, 269 and 267 for a 752 series. Anderson, of Cooper City, Florida, had games of 228, 224 and 279 for 731.

Samuels – making his debut at the USBC Open Championships – added sets of 639 in team and 628 in singles to post an all-events score of 2,019. Anderson closed his fourth tournament appearance with 671 in singles and 579 in team for 1,981 in all-events.
Their strong performances in Baton Rouge also helped Him Bowling Events #18 into 10th place in Team All-Events with 9,471. Samuels and Anderson were joined at the 2025 event by Jacob McElwee (1,869 for all-events), Tyler Shingle (1,828) and Steve Johnson (1,774).
Mento Produce of Auburn, New York, leads Team All-Events in 2025 with 9,887.
The Open Championships is celebrating its third trip to Baton Rouge in 2025 and scheduled to feature more than 58,000 bowlers and 11,600 five-player teams competing across 150 consecutive days at the River Center.
