JazreelTanJazreel Tan of Singapore took the lead early during qualifying at the Professional Women's Bowling Association Lubbock Sports Open and maintained that momentum to earn top qualifier honors at South Plains Lanes on Friday.

The 25-year-old right-hander averaged more than 224 on the way to a 12-game pinfall of 2,697 and is one of four bowlers from Singapore among the 16 who qualified for match play.

Missy Parkin of Laguna Hills, California, was second overall with a 2,572 total and was followed by Singapore's Shayna Ng (2,564), Josie Earnest of Nashville, Tennessee (2,542) and Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York (2,529). Singapore's Cherie Tan and Daphne Tan qualified sixth and 10th, respectively, while Hui Fen New finished 17th.

"I was in a zone today and making the right decisions, and the pins really fell my way during the first block," said Tan, a four-time first-team All-American and two-time collegiate player of the year at Wichita State from 2009-2013. "The lanes are not easy, but I was able to stay ahead of the transition and finish strong."

The top 16 players in the qualifying standings Friday advanced to Saturday's round-robin match play, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Eastern. The event concludes with the stepladder finals at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. All rounds are being broadcast live on Xtra Frame, and the winner will take home a top prize of $10,000.

Last week's top qualifier and eventual PWBA Storm Sacramento Open runner-up, Kristina Wendell of Kingston, New York, earned the final spot in match play this week with a 2,425 total, a 202.08 average.

The remaining players will bowl 16 games of match play Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Match play will conclude with a position round to finalize the top four for the stepladder finals.

Tan, who returned home to bowl full-time for Singapore after graduating from Wichita State, and her Team Singapore teammates, are looking to continue their quick success on the PWBA Tour. They plan to compete in next week's PWBA Wichita Open in Wichita, Kansas, and return for the Bowlmor AMF U.S. Women's Open during the first week of September.

"I've only been back to bowl one time since I graduated in 2013, but I always enjoy bowling here and having a chance to see everyone," said Tan, whose last appearance in the United States was for the 2014 United States Bowling Congress Queens. "I think now with the PWBA back, we are excited to be here and show that bowlers from Singapore can compete at this level."

The 2015 PWBA Lubbock Sports Open featured 74 bowlers competing for 32 prize checks. USBC Hall of Famer Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, New York, earned the final prize check, worth $1,200, with a 2,333 total.
