Skidmore to Close Historic Albuquerque Center in May

Lomas Boulevard is one of the main east-west transportation arteries in Albuquerque, and long has been home to a pair of bowling centers right across the street from one another.

Since 2012, both centers have been owned by former PBA Tour player Gary Skidmore, and now go by the names of Skidmore’s Holiday Bowl (on the north side of the street) and SkidZ Family Entertainment Center (on the south side).

But once the 2014-15 league season comes to a close in May, Skidmore says he will shut down SkidZ. The property will be sold and reportedly used for a Kia automobile dealership.

Skidmore told KRQE News that he planned to shift as many employees as possible to Holiday Bowl, which hosted the 2008 Bowlers Journal Championships. He told the Albuquerque Business Journal, “It’s probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

The center opened in 1957 under the name Lomas Bowl.
