SMITH WINS OPENING QUALIFIER AT PEPSI PWBA LINCOLN OPEN

LINCOLN, Nebraska – Brittany Smith of Des Moines, Iowa, won the pre-tournament qualifier for the Pepsi Professional Women’s Bowlers Association Lincoln Open held Thursday at Sun Valley Lanes.

Smith’s six-game total of 1,274 led the field of 26 bowlers who were competing for 11 spots in the Pepsi PWBA Lincoln Open, which starts Friday. The 2015-2016 National Collegiate Coaches Association Most Valuable Player rolled games of 210, 134, 228, 194, 266 and 242 to grab the top spot.

Also qualifying were Sandra Gongora of Mexico (1,253), and Malaysia’s Syaidatul Hamidi (1,234), Esther Cheah (1,226) and Nora Lyana Norkamal (1,216).

Spots six through 10 went to Nicole Bower of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, Olivia Sandham of St. Joseph, Missouri, Sharon Koh of Malaysia, Katie Ann Sopp of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, and Lauren Pate of Inner Grove Lake, Minnesota.

The final qualifying spot went to Malaysia’s Natasha Roslan with a pinfall total of 1,148.

The opening round of competition for the Pepsi PWBA Lincoln Open begins Friday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern, with the first of two six-game blocks. Both Friday and Saturday’s action will be streamed live on Xtra Frame, the online bowling channel of the Professional Bowlers Association.
