Szczerbinski, Dorin-Ballard advance at World Cup

TOULON, France - Team USA's John Szczerbinski and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard both made the first cut at the 2010 QubicaAMF World Cup on Thursday, advancing to the Round of 24.
After 16 games of qualifying, Szczerbinski topped the field of 92 bowlers in the men's field with a total of 3,710, a 231.88 average, while Dorin-Ballard sat in ninth place with 3,310, an average of 206.88, at Bowling de Provence.
Szczerbinski holds a 127-pin lead over Germany's Achim Grabowski, who has 3,583, while Mads Sandbaekken of Norway is third with 3,571.
Korea's Min-Young Gye leads the 76-player women's field with 3,556, a 222.25 average, while the Dominican Republic's Aumi Guerra is second with 3,442.
The top 24 players in both the men's and women's divisions advanced to Friday's Round of 24, which will consist of eight additional games of qualifying. The field will then be cut to the top eight men and top eight women for round-robin match play. Players will get 30 bonus pins for each victory in match play.
Following the conclusion of Friday night's match play, the top three men and top three women will make the stepladder finals, which will be contested on Saturday. All rounds are being broadcast live on BOWL.com.
