Team USA men qualify for 2015 Pan American Games

ARLINGTON, Texas - Team USA's Mike Fagan of Dallas and Nathan Bohr of Austin, Texas, helped the United States qualify for the 2015 Pan American Games bowling competition with a strong performance at last week's Pan American Sports Festival in Puebla, Mexico.
The pair easily led the country all-events total at the event with 10,572 for 48 games, combining their totals from doubles, mixed doubles and singles. The 2015 Pan Am Games will take place in Toronto.
The Team USA women did not qualify for the Pan Am Games last week but will have a second opportunity at the Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships in Cali, Colombia, in September.
The U.S. pair of Kayla Johnson of Washington, Illinois, and Sarah Lokker of New Baltimore, Michigan, missed qualifying by one position. They finished sixth in the country all-events standings with 9,057.
"We had a great week on the men's side, but we still have a little work to do on the women's side to qualify for the Pan American Games," Team USA head coach Rod Ross said. "I'm proud of the effort put in by all four players, and I look forward to our women's team competing in Colombia for a spot."
As of now, 14 teams will qualify to compete in the Pan Am Games. The top seven men's teams in the country all-events standings who had not already qualified earned spots.
The qualifying countries from PASF were the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Panama and Aruba. Four countries qualified at the South American Games - Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil. Canada automatically earns a spot as the host country. The final two spots in the Pan Am Games field will be determined at the Central and Caribbean Games.
For the women, three spots were awarded at the PASF event with Mexico, Brazil and Costa Rica advancing. Four teams from the South American Games qualified - Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina and Chile. Four teams will qualify at the PABCON Women's Championships and the final two spots will come from the Central and Caribbean Games.
In addition to Pan Am Games qualifying, medals were awarded in four events at the Pan American Sports Festival. Players battled for medals in doubles, mixed doubles, singles and Masters match play.
Fagan and Bohr earned the silver medal in doubles to start the week and excelled from there on out. Bohr teamed with Lokker to win mixed doubles, and Fagan and Johnson took the silver.
In the singles event, Fagan earned the gold, while Bohr took silver. Fagan struck gold again in Masters, while Bohr earned a bronze medal.
