Team USA rosters determined after week of competition of Team USA Trials
RENO, Nev. – Rosters for Team USA and Junior Team USA in 2025 have been finalized after the completion of the United States Bowling Congress Team USA Trials and United States National Amateur Bowling Championships, which came to a close Tuesday night at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.
C.J. Petrin of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Katelyn Abigania of San Diego came out as the latest U.S. Amateur champions, with Petrin defeating defending U.S. Amateur champion Julian Salinas of Richmond, Texas, and Abigania going 2-0 to claim the crown.
Crystal Elliott of Palm Bay, Florida, and Ryan Barnes of Denton, Texas, were the champions of the 2025 Team USA Trials competition after 30 games of competition over five days on five different oil patterns.
In addition to those mentioned above, six other competitors earned automatic spots on Team USA 2025 based on their performance this week in Reno.
Throughout the event, players earned ranking points based on where they finished after each day of competition. The leader each day received one point, second place earned two points and so on with the lowest number of points after the five six-game blocks determining the 2025 Team USA Trials men’s and women’s champion.
Elliott, the 2024 Professional Women’s Bowling Association Rookie of the Year, became the first person to win Team Trials after winning U.S. Amateur the previous year.
“I’m still processing this,” said Elliott. “It makes me a little emotional because that’s something really cool I did. I wanted to come in one day and win Trials. Did I think it was going to be the year after I won U.S. Amateur? No, but it worked out like that and it’s an honor.”
Elliott finished the event with only 27 ranking points, the fifth fewest by a woman since 2016 and a 74-point improvement from 2024 when she had 101 points. She averaged 223.13 for the week with a low finish of 20th on Day 2 and placed first or second the other four days.
The other three automatic spots for Team USA on the women’s side went to Chloe Lemke of Nachogdoches, Texas (61 ranking points), Gianna Brandolino of Channahon, Illinois (67), and Maranda Pattison of Redwood Valley, California (73).
For the men’s side of the event, Ryan Barnes won his first Team USA Trials after finishing the week with 53 ranking points and averaging 229.6 over his 30 games of competition. He ended the week with a 299 game and embraced his father, USBC Hall of Famer Chris Barnes, afterwards.
“It really means a lot to me,” said Ryan. “Right now I’m just kind of living in the moment, taking it all in. Hopefully I can continue to build on that and come back be a part of the team in the future.”
Collecting the other three automatic spots for the men were Petrin (105 points), Salinas (114) and Connor Fleming of Fort Worth, Texas (125).
While some spots on Team USA and Junior Team USA were already locked after the last ball was thrown in Reno, the action was far from over as U.S. Amateur champions had to be crowned.
In the men’s stepladder, Salinas and Fleming faced off in the semifinal match, with Salinas trying to be the first repeat U.S. Amateur men’s champion. Connor Fleming, on the other hand, was looking to follow in his father’s, Paul, footsteps as Paul won the U.S. Amateur event in 1991.
Through the first five frames, neither player was able to pull away until Salinas strung together a four-bagger later and Connor was unsuccessful in matching him. Salinas prevailed, 221-202, to face Petrin.
Salinas and Petrin had a high-scoring title match, but Salinas made a ball change just a frame too late and Petrin took advantage of a few good breaks to take the home the U.S. Amateur trophy, 277-265.
Since Petrin earned an automatic spot on Team USA as the U.S. Amateur champion and was age-eligible, his Team Trials spot went to the next-highest finisher, which was Bryce Oliver of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Just two pairs over in the women’s stepladder, Brandolino was looking for redemption in the stepladder after being runner-up in 2024, but had to take on Abigania first.
Similar to the men’s semifinal match, neither Brandolino or Abigania could pull away until Abigania had a four-bagger of her own and Brandolino opened in the seventh, unable to recover from that. Abigania advanced with 238 against Brandolino’s 191 to face Lemke.
In the title match, Lemke started with an early double, leaving Abigania behind through the first four frames. That’s when Abigania came alive again, this time with five strikes in a row while Lemke opened twice late. The San Diego bowler shut the door in the final frame and came away as the U.S. Amateur champion with 236 to Lemke’s 171.
In addition to the bowlers who earned automatic berths onto the roster of Team USA, two men and two women were awarded spots based on their rankings at Team USA Trials.
Landin Jordan of Sycamore, Illinois, and Darren Tang of Las Vegas will join the men’s team, while Annalise OBryant of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Kirsten Moore of Tallmadge, Ohio, join the women’s team.
One man and one woman were selected by the National Selection Committee based on their performances at the 2025 Team USA Trials.
Andrew Anderson of Chesterfield, Michigan, was selected to join the men’s team and Hope Gramly of Coldwater, Michigan, joins the women’s team.

Those who weren’t age-eligible for adult team consideration this time around spent the week trying to secure spots on Junior Team USA 2025 and finish as high up as possible in the U.S. Amateur standings.
Boys earning the automatic spots on Junior Team USA for 2025 were Fleming; Jordan; Josh Hammons of Topeka, Kansas; and Christian Liquori of Merritt Island, Florida.
Four additional boys were added to Junior Team USA based on rankings this week: Braden Mallasch of Waupaca, Wisconsin; Carter Street of Wichita, Kansas; Traeten Henrichsmeyer of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and Hayden Hale of Pinckney, Michigan.
