Team USA set for Women's Team medal round at 2025 IBF World Championships

FULL RESULTS

HONG KONG – Thursday was a day of rest for Team USA as none of the 12 athletes competing in Hong Kong took to the lanes on the second-to-last day of action at the 2025 International Bowling Federation World Championships.

That only represents the calm before the storm, however, as, on Friday, Julia Bond of Lincoln, Nebraska; Breanna Clemmer of Pikeville, Kentucky; Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona; Jillian Martin of Stow, Ohio; Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio, and Lauren Russo of O’Fallon, Missouri, will attempt to earn one of the tournament’s most-coveted prizes, the Women’s Team gold medal.

To get it, the third-seeded U.S. women will have to defeat No. 2 Korea during semifinal action and then dispatch the winner of the other semi – No. 1 Malaysia vs. No. 4 Japan – in the gold-medal match.

Both the semifinals and finals will use a best-of-three Baker match-play format.

While the preliminary rounds of the Women’s Team event were held at Top Bowl in Kai Tak Sports Park, Friday’s final two rounds will take place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai.

The Team USA women have captured gold inside that venue before as Pluhowsky, Coté, Martin and Russo were part of the U.S. squad that won Women’s Team gold at the 2025 IBF World Cup in January. That event used Queen Elizabeth Stadium for the finals as well.

Pluhowsky remembers that victory vividly and is hoping the prior success helps put her and her teammates into the right frame of mind to put their best foot forward on Friday.

“The stadium is a cool experience,” Pluhowsky said. “We found success there in January and will rely on those experiences to help us tomorrow.”

Four men’s teams will get to enjoy the experience as well as the Men’s Team semifinals and finals also will take place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Friday.

The Men’s Team final four will pit No. 1 Germany against No. 4 France while second-seeded Sweden takes on No. 3 Korea.

Team USA had hoped to have its men’s squad competing at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Friday as well, but it wasn’t meant to be as Andrew Anderson of Chesterfield Township, Michigan; Ryan Barnes of Denton, Texas; Packy Hanrahan of Wichita, Kansas; A.J. Johnson of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Kristopher Prather of Romeoville, Illinois, and Chris Via of Blacklick, Ohio, placed 15th in the 28-team Men’s Team qualifying field on Wednesday and were eliminated.

Friday will be the last day of competition at the 2025 IBF World Championships, which began on Nov. 25. After the last balls have been rolled and the final medals have been awarded, the Victory Banquet will officially bring the tournament to a close on Friday evening.
