Texas duo takes doubles lead at 2026 USBC Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Javier Juarez of San Marcos, Texas, and Jay Good of Kyle, Texas, took over the lead in Classified Doubles on Sunday morning at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships, posting a combined score of 1,202 at the National Bowling Stadium.
Good led the performance with the first 700 series of his young bowling career, recording games of 265, 205 and 257 for a 727 set. Juarez added games of 148, 139 and 188 for a 475 series.
Everett Hofmeister of Emerson, Nebraska, and Kaitlin Hofmeister of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, had led since April 10 with 1,170.
Both Juarez and Good made their debut this week at the USBC Open Championships but performed like tournament veterans down the stretch during the final game. Starting in the fifth frame, Juarez delivered four strikes in a row while Good connected for seven straight strikes.
A strong string of strikes also helped define Game 1 for Good. He started with eight strikes before leaving a 10 pin in the ninth frame.

Good added sets of 514 in team and 458 in singles for a nine-game score of 1,699, which currently places him in 11th for Classified All-Events. Juarez had 495 in team and 488 in singles for an all-events score of 1,458.
Classified Doubles features bowlers with combined entering averages of 320 and below.
The Open Championships is celebrating its 122nd edition in 2026 and making its 15th trip to Reno, Nevada. The 2026 event is scheduled to feature more than 55,000 bowlers and 11,000 five-player teams competing across 128 consecutive days at the National Bowling Stadium.
