The 24th and final berth in the Men’s Doubles Round of 24 went to the German duo of Dennis Gruenheid and Paul Purps, which moved on to Sunday’s final day of doubles competition thanks to a seven-game mark of 1,512 (a 216 average).
While the Germans narrowly made the cut, Malaysia’s Muhammad Danial Abu Samah and Mohammad Hafiz Zainuddin set the pace, leading qualifying with a scorching 1,699 total (a 242.71 average), which came via games of 235, 244, 197, 243, 276, 259 and 245.
Romania’s Mihai-Alin Dragnia and Mate Balazs-Becsi finished in second place on Saturday with 1,660, which included a 289 during Game 5.
Julian Dinham and Luke Doyle of Australia shot 299 during Game 5 and 300 in Game 6 to finish third on the day with 1,651.
The final two spots in the qualifying top five went to France’s Maxime Dubois and Gaetan Mouveroux (1,649), and the Finnish pair of Tomas Käyhkö and Niko Oksanen (1,635).
Sunday will be the final day of doubles competition at the 2025 IBF World Championships and will see the Round of 24, semifinals and finals completed in each division.
Team USA will have three squads competing on the women’s side as Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona, and Shannon Pluhowsky of Dayton, Ohio; Lauren Russo of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Breanna Clemmer of Pikeville, Kentucky, and Julia Bond of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jillian Martin of Stow, Ohio, all punched their tickets to the Women’s Doubles Round of 24 on Friday.
Only two of those duos will have the opportunity to reach the podium, however, as Group C features both Russo and Clemmer as well as Martin and Bond – Coté and Pluhowsky will compete in Group B.
After doubles medals have been conferred, the final two events of the 2025 IBF World Championships will be trios and team.
The first two rounds of Men’s Trios will occur on Monday with Women’s Trios following on Tuesday.
The focus will shift from three bowlers to five on Wednesday, which is when the first two rounds of Men’s Team and Women’s Team competition will occur.
The excitement is sure to reach a fever pitch during the last two days of competition when the action moves from Top Bowl to Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wanchai.
The trios semifinals and finals in both divisions will take place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on Thursday with the Men’s Team and Women’s Team semis and finals following on Friday, which will be the last day of competition at this year’s tournament.
After the last balls have been rolled and the final medals have been awarded, the Victory Banquet will officially bring the 2025 IBF World Championships to a close on Friday evening.
