U.S. has star-studded team for PABCON

ARLINGTON, Texas - The United States will present a star-studded lineup when it hosts the 2010 Pan American Bowling Confederation Women's Championships this fall in suburban Las Vegas.

The event, which is expected to feature bowlers from nearly 20 countries in the American Zone, is scheduled to take place Sept. 26-Oct. 1 at Sunset Station Hotel and Casino's Strike Zone Bowling Center in Henderson, Nev. The United States Bowling Congress will provide wire-to-wire live streaming coverage of the event on BOWL.com.

"The United States Bowling Congress is proud to support PABCON by hosting the Women's Championships," USBC Director of Coaching and Team USA David Garber said. "The players will enjoy a top-notch venue, and we look forward to working with Sunset Station on another great event."

Team USA has selected Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., Shannon O'Keefe of Arlington, Texas, Shannon Pluhowsky of Phoenix, Stefanie Nation of Grand Prairie, Texas, Liz Johnson of Cheektowaga, N.Y., and Tennelle Milligan of Arlington, Texas, to compete.

"We have had a lot of success in this event in the past but by no means has it been easy," Team USA head coach Rod Ross said. "We will have to work hard for every medal, and the team we have assembled will do just that."

The Americans have performed well in the PABCON Championships in the past. Last year, Team USA won four of six gold medals in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and in 2008 in Santiago, Chile, they won all six gold medals.

In the highly coveted five-player team event, Team USA has won the gold medal the past seven times and will look to extend that streak.

The 2010 PABCON Women's Championships is expected to feature approximately 100 competitors from nearly 20 countries competing for medals in six events - five-player team, trios, doubles, singles, all-events and Masters match play.

In other Team USA news, the program announced its representatives for the QubicaAMF World Cup, which will be contested in Zagreb, Croatia, from Oct. 16-23.

Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, and John Szczerbinski of North Tonawanda, N.Y., will represent the United States at the annual event, which boasts participation by more countries than any other bowling event in the world.
