USBC's Cain congratulates Kulick on win

ARLINGTON, Texas – A memorable moment in the history of the sport occurred when Kelly Kulick defeated Missy Parkin to win Bowling's U.S. Women's Open outdoors under the iconic Reno Arch in Reno, Nev., last week.
“I want to congratulate Team USA and USBC Board member Kelly Kulick on her third U.S. Women’s Open title,” USBC President Andrew Cain said. “Kelly gives a tremendous amount of time to our organization and sport while still staying at the top of her game. Her accomplishments and commitment are remarkable.”
The outdoor environment, with winds gusting between 18-24 mph, created a spectacular visual image along with unusual lane conditions that lowered the scoring pace of the finals and caused players to use plastic balls for most of the competition.
“The 2012 U.S. Women’s Open tested the versatility and shot-making ability of the greatest players in the world while showcasing strategy and endurance in a way we have rarely witnessed,” said Cain, a three-time Team USA member. “We saw pure grit, determination and instinct on display without fancy messengers or big strings of strikes. Missy Parkin, Shannon O’Keefe, Stefanie Nation and Lynda Barnes joined Kelly in facing the challenging situation with the highest level of professionalism and class.”
The finals telecast aired to a national television audience on ESPN2 and coverage of the event under the famed Reno Arch garnered significant nationwide media attention.
“I applaud our partners at the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America for their innovation and success in generating exposure for women’s bowling,” Cain said. “The event showcased the best bowlers in the world on a magnificent stage with a fair competition that crowned a deserving champion and the industry should be proud.”
