USBC announces high average, series awards for 2013-14

ARLINGTON, Texas - Former Team USA member Bryanna Caldwell of Red Rock, Arizona, and John Brockland of St. Charles, Missouri, have earned United States Bowling Congress Sport Bowling National High Average Awards for the 2013-2014 season.
Caldwell, 28, claimed the women's title by finishing the PBA Experience Summer league at Golden Pin Lanes with a 215 average for 50 games. She recently tied the national record for highest series by a woman, rolling games of 300, 279 and 300 on Sept. 16. The 879 series matched the set posted by Katie Verbil of Wichita, Kansas, in 2012.
Brockland, 50, averaged 233 for 64 games during the STL Sport League Winter league at Brunswick Zone Chesterfield to claim the men's award. Brockland is a member of the St. Louis and Missouri State USBC Halls of Fame.
The Youth Male and Female Sport Bowling National High Average Award winners both came out of the RZ - Junior Gold league at Brunswick Zone Westminster in Westminster, Colorado.
Brandon Schwenk, 18, of Broomfield, Colorado, finished at a 200 average for 48 games, while Kyra Phillips, 18, of Thornton, Colorado, took the top honors for youth females by finishing with a 192 average for 48 games.
National Standard High Average and High Series Awards
The USBC National Standard High Average and High Series Awards for 2013-2014 also have been determined.
Team USA member Shannon Pluhowsky, 32, of Dayton, Ohio, took home the Female National Standard High Average Award after posting a 245 average for 96 games during the Half & Half league at Capri Lanes. It is her second national high average title, having won the Sport title for the 2008-2009 season.
Adam Barta, 35, of Girard, Ohio, finished the Max Belchyk Classic league at Holiday Bowl with a 253 average for 87 games to capture the men's award.
The Providence Senate Juniors league at Lang's Bowlarama in Cranston, Rhode Island, was the home of the Youth Male and Youth Female National Standard High Average Award winners for 2013-2014.
Qwadaris Rembert of Providence, Rhode Island, led the way for the youth males with a 245 average for 81 games, while Jadee Scott-Jones, 18, of East Providence, Rhode Island, paced the youth females with a 223 average for 85 games.
Rembert, 19, also claimed the Youth National Standard High Series Award by firing games of 279, 300 and 300 for an 879 series in the same league Dec. 8.
Todd James of East New Market, Maryland, and Amos Gordon of Colorado Springs, Colorado, shared the top spot for the National Standard High Series Award after each compiled a 900 series in 2014.
James, 31, rolled 36 consecutive strikes during the Tuesday Night Mixed league at Bryan's Bowling Center in Laurel, Delaware, on March 18, while Gordon, 29, etched his place in the record books during the Friday Night Mixed Early league at Thunder Alley Bowling Center in Fort Carson, Colorado, on April 11.
James and Gordon became the 23rd and 24th bowlers in history to record a perfect series, respectively. There have been 25 USBC-approved 900 series.
Tracy Pietrucha, 33, of Atlanta rolled games of 299, 270 and 299 for an 868 series during the 58th Annual Georgia State USBC WBA Tournament at Junction Lanes on March 2 to earn the Female National Standard High Series Award.
The Youth Female National Standard High Series Award went to Allyson Meyer, 20, of Fargo, North Dakota, after shooting games of 300, 279 and 269 for an 848 set during the X-treme league at The Bowler on Jan. 15.
