USBC brings Bronze coaching certification course to Italy

The United States Bowling Congress furthered its partnership with the Italian Sport Bowling Federation (FISB) this month when 40 coaches attended bronze-level coaching certification courses in the cities of Asti, Bologna and Rome.
The courses were open to competitive bowlers looking to broaden their knowledge of the sport as well as Italian bowling instructors and FISB members wishing to earn Bronze-level certification.
USBC Director of International Relations Bill Hoffman teamed with USBC Gold coach Frank Buffa on the trip and believes that certifying more coaches throughout the country will expand the sport’s appeal there.
“We’re trying to help all bowlers in Italy have more fun in the sport through coaching,” Hoffman said. “Right now a primary focus is on customizing the USBC Coaching certification program to best fit the FISB’s needs. And Frank and I realize none of this could be achieved without the vision of FISB President Alessandro Sattanino.”
The certification courses offered instruction on a wide variety of topics, from two-handed bowling techniques to mental and physical preparation, lane play, oil patterns, spare shooting, marketing and much more.
All attendees earned a certificate of attendance and were given an immediate opportunity to put their new knowledge into practice in coaching clinics at local bowling centers throughout the country.
European Bowling Tour champion Amadeo Spada hosted one of the courses at his new, four-lane training center in Rome, which opens to the public next month.
While in Rome, Sattanino took Hoffman and Buffa to the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) School of Sport in Rome, where they exchanged ideas with European Coaching Council Executive Board Member Dr. Claudio Mantovani on how the sport of bowling can achieve more prominent recognition throughout the Italian school system.
Hoffman and Buffa will return to Italy in November, when those who attended the June Bronze-level courses will have the opportunity to earn official certification as USBC Bronze coaches.
