USBC Coaching will be in the Detroit area
You might know a great deal about bowling, and even be pretty good at it. But would you be able to teach someone how to bowl?

Knowing the sport and knowing how to teach the sport are quite different. For bowlers in the Detroit area, including those who might be new to the sport and want to learn more, USBC Coaching will host two coaching certification classes from Nov. 11-14.
Community Bowling Centers has stepped up to work with USBC Coaching to provide Level I and Bronze certification classes at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, Mich., so you can learn what you need to know to teach the sport.
The Level I class, which covers fundamentals that apply to bowlers of all ages, is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Participants must be at least 13 years old to take this class. This is a great class for parents looking to learn more about the sport so they can help or possibly coach in youth leagues that feature beginning bowlers.
USBC Coaching also will offer the two-and-a-half day class for Bronze certification. This class offers intermediate training and is highly recommended for high school coaches. The Bronze class starts Friday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m., continues Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and concludes Sunday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. To take the Bronze certification class, you must be at least 16 years old and have completed Level I certification.

USBC Coaching Specialist Stephen Padilla, who is a USBC Silver certified coach, will be leading the classes. The day after classes conclude, participants in each class will receive e-mail instructions for taking the online exams utilizing the USBC eLearning site. USBC Coaching encourages completion of the exams within three weeks. Participants who take both certification classes will be sent the instructions for the Bronze exam after successfully completing the Level I exam.
The Level I class teaches coaches their role and responsibilities, including sport safety, how to maintain a positive approach and environment, and how to add fun to youth programs. Coaches will learn the progression of skills from the two-handed delivery to the basic four-step approach and will go on the lanes for instruction to show the practical application of what they learn.
Bronze certification delves deeper, discussing how to fine-tune the physical game, looking at lane conditions and how to make adjustments, and also the mental game. Coaches also will examine the components of the bowling ball and the dynamics of ball motion. Video taping and video analysis also are examined and participants will have the opportunity give a lesson.
