Three proposals to be decided at 2011 USBC Annual Meeting
Delegates will vote on three proposals involving changes to USBC bylaws and league rules at the USBC Annual Meeting on July 1 in Grapevine, Texas. Of the three proposals, two relate to changes to USBC Bylaws and one refers to league rules.

The USBC bylaws proposals include one from the field to require non-merged state and local associations to be merged by Aug.1, 2012. The other bylaw proposal seeks to change the requirement for Board of Director candidate credentials to be filed with USBC from 24 hours to 30 days. The playing rules proposal asks to lower the age for senior leagues to 50.

Indianapolis will host USBC Junior Gold, Youth Open in 2012
The biggest youth bowling tournaments in the nation, the USBC Junior Gold Championships and the USBC Youth Open, will return to Indianapolis in 2012.

Woodland Bowl, Western Bowl and Expo Bowl will be the host centers for Junior Gold with the semifinals and finals to be contested at Woodland Bowl. Expo Bowl will be the site of the Youth Open. The Junior Gold Championships will run July 14-20, 2012. The Youth Open is scheduled for July 13-29, 2012.

Dorin-Ballard named USBC Director of Coaching
USBC Hall of Famer Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Keller, Texas, enjoyed a long and successful career on the bowling lanes and now will bring her experience and knowledge to the organization as the USBC Director of Coaching.

A four-time Team USA member, Dorin-Ballard started her new position March 1. A USBC Silver coach, she most recently served as a member of Brunswick’s professional teaching staff, and her three decades of competitive bowling and coaching experience give her a well-rounded viewpoint at the helm of USBC’s coaching initiatives.

As the Director of Coaching, Dorin-Ballard, 46, will oversee the USBC coaching staff, be responsible for maintaining the recently-launched Coaching Re-certification program and implementing the accompanying Continuing Education program, and working with the Youth Education Services (YES) Fund program. She also will focus on establishing regional training sites and coaches as well as grass roots coaching clinics across the United States.

High school events will be shown live on BOWL.com
For the first time, a regular-season high school tournament will be broadcast live from start to finish on BOWL.com, USBC’s official website.

The 2011 Star City High School Open will feature top teams from the Midwest and will take place March 19-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. Eastern on March 19 with two squads of qualifying. The top half will advance to double-elimination match play featuring best-of-five Baker matches, which will begin at 9 a.m. on March 20.

The North Pointe Insurance Group $100,000 High School Singles Championship Tournament on July 15-17 also has been added to the BOWL.com live streaming schedule.

Post-season collegiate events that will be shown live on BOWL.com include the NAIA Invitational on April 1-3, the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships from April 21-23 and the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Championships on May 23-24.

Two bowling coaches are finalists for USOC Coach of the Year awards
The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced that Nicholas Bohanan, the Sports Performance Specialist for the United States Bowling Congress, and Michael Nyitray, a USBC Gold coach who has received multiple national coaching awards, are finalists for the 2011 USOC Coach of the Year awards.

U.S. Olympic and Pan American sports organizations selected their 2010 Coaches of the Year as part of the USOC Coach of the Year Recognition Program. The finalists in each category were chosen by a panel of coaching and sport education professionals.

Major women’s events to air in high definition on ESPN2
Women’s bowling will be featured in high definition for the first time when the USBC Queens and Bowling’s U.S. Women’s Open take place later this year.

Both events will be held in arena settings and air on ESPN2. The Queens will take place April 27 and the U.S. Women’s Open airs July 2. The Queens will be shown live from The Oncenter in Syracuse, N.Y., while the U.S. Women’s Open finals will be taped at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Queens will take place April 22-27 with the televised finals beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern on April 27. For more information on the Queens, including online registration, visit BOWL.com/queens.

The U.S. Women’s Open, sponsored by the Brands of Ebonite International, is June 24-29 at AMF Showplace Lanes in Euless, Texas. O’Neill tops voting for US Bowler All-America team
For the first time in his career, Team USA’s Bill O’Neill of Southampton, Pa., has been named to the US Bowler All-America team.

O’Neill was the leading vote-getter after winning two titles on the Lumber Liquidators Professional Bowlers Association Tour in 2010 and three gold medals at the 2010 World Tenpin Bowling Association World Men’s Championships. Voters for the All-America teams used statistics from the calendar year 2010 to make their decisions.

Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., was the women’s top vote-getter after dominating the major women’s events in 2010. In addition to topping the men at the PBA Tournament of Champions, Kulick won the USBC Queens and the U.S. Women’s Open.

USBC Hall of Famer Billie O’Connor dies at age 82
Billie O’Connor, a USBC Hall of Fame member, died Feb. 8. She was 82.

O’Connor, who was inducted into the hall of fame for meritorious service in 1992, was a member of the Women’s International Bowling Congress Board of Directors from 1970 to 1983. She chaired the WIBC Legislative Committee and was on the Advisory and Planning, Nominating, Industry Relations and Lane Certification committees. She was appointed WIBC fourth vice president in 1981.

Bowlopolis launches redesigned website
The International Bowling Campus Youth Development Team announced the redesigned Bowlopolis website (www.Bowlopolis.com) is now available. The website is designed to be the destination choice to introduce bowling to children 8 years old and younger.

“The new Bowlopolis website allows us to showcase bowling to young children in a fun, interactive way," Bowlopolis Brand Manager Natasha Teague said. "While on the website, kids can watch videos, learn about all the Bowlopolis characters, basic bowling skills and rules, join the Kid's Club and find a local bowling center to apply and expand upon what they learn."

At Bowlopolis.com, children interact with the world of Bowlopolis through games, puzzles, coloring pages and videos. Visitors also can watch the first three episodes of Bowlopolis for free, and centers that use the Bowlopolis brand are listed on the Locator page.
