USBC Masters heading east in 2013, 2014

ARLINGTON, Texas - For the first time since 1999, the United States Bowling Congress Masters will head east when the 2013 and 2014 events are held at Brunswick Zone Carolier in North Brunswick, N.J.
The USBC Masters, which has a history that dates to 1951, will take place Feb. 18-24, 2013, and on dates to be determined in 2014, at the 82-lane Brunswick Zone Carolier. In 1999, the Masters was contested in Syracuse, N.Y., which was the last time the event was held in the Eastern time zone.
"Major tournaments at Brunswick Zone Carolier have been very successful over the years and many of our bowlers have been asking for the event to move back east," USBC Managing Director of Media and Events Pete Tredwell said. "It will have been 14 years since the Masters was held on the East Coast, and we are excited to bring the event back to an area where competitive bowling is very strong."
Brunswick Zone Carolier has played host to the U.S. Open seven times, including this season when the event took place in February. The 2013 U.S. Open will move to a new location, which will be announced at a later date.
The Masters will also undergo some minor format changes in 2013 with qualifying shifting to 15 games for all participants and eliminating the cashers qualifying round.
The top five players at the end of the double-elimination match-play bracket will compete in the two-hour championship round on live television.
To accommodate the change from four to five players making the show, the final match in the Masters elimination bracket will consist of four players battling for the final three spots on the show. The four players will bowl one three-game match on the same pair of lanes with the high score earning the No. 3 seed, the second high score No. 4 and third high score fifth. The lowest scoring player will be eliminated.
The top two seeds on the TV finals will still come from the final two players in the winners bracket and they will bowl a three-game match for the top seed.
The Masters is a major event on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour and will be a part of the World Tenpin Bowling Association World Bowling Tour for the third consecutive season in 2013.
