Vincennes, Mohawk Valley win NJCAA titles

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Vincennes claimed its 18th men's title while Mohawk Valley Community College defended its women's title at the National Junior College Athletic Association Bowling Championships held March 2-3 at Thruway Lanes.

Led by all-events winner Jalen Scott-Jones, Vincennes had a 13,688 pinfall total to edge Hudson Valley Community College (13,527). Corning Community College (12,973) finished third, followed by Cayuga Community College (12,476) and Muskegon Community College (12,370). The Trailblazers have won the national title four of the last five years. The team finished third in 2011.

Scott-Jones' 2,471 all-events total edged Bobby Moro of Cayuga CC by a single pin. Vincennes had two others in the top-5 of all-events as Brett Golabeck (2,424) was third and James Fielder (2,388) was fifth.

For the Mohawk Valley CC women's team, the 2012 title not only gave them back-to-back titles but also marked its third NJCAA title in the past six seasons. Mohawk Valley CC had an 11,252 pinfall total to top Herkimer County Community College (10,945) and Erie Community College (10,848) for the title. Schenectady Community College (10,617) was fourth and Suffolk County Community College (10,463) was fifth.

Sara Edenhofer of Herkimer CC took the women's all-events title with a 2,313 total, followed by Corning CC's Sammi McAtee (2,263), Victoria Jansen (2,249) of Hudson Valley CC, CCAC Boyce's Breanna Moree (2,213) and Corning CC's Kaylin Grannis (2,193).

Both the Vincennes men's team and Mohawk Valley CC women's team already had been selected to compete in the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships sectionals. The sectionals will be held at four sites on March 10-11. Vincennes will be at the sectional in Smyrna, Tenn., while Mohawk Valley CC will be at the sectional in Allentown, Pa.
