Weather K.O.s tournament

The state high school bowling tournament in Tennessee had to been postponed over the weekend when a portion of the roof collapsed at the host facility, Smyrna Bowling Center.

The cave-in was caused by a build-up of snow and ice on the roof over lanes 1-14. Fortunately, the mishap occurred around 1 a.m., when nobody was bowling in that section of the 52-lane center because of the bad weather in the area. No employees were hurt.

School officials are taking a wait-and-see attitude about the suspended competition.

"The last thing we want to do is cancel the tournament," Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Assn. Assistant Director Matthew Gillespie told the Tennessean. "We'll do what we can to reconvene the team tournament. But right now we don't have any clue on dates, sites or options. I think Smyrna is probably not a site option because of the damage they've got."
