Webber men, Midland women win 2018 Glenn Carlson Invitational

LAS VEGAS – The Webber International men completed a wire-to-wire victory with perfection at the Glenn Carlson Las Vegas Invitational, while Midland saved their best for the title match to capture the women's title at the 2018 event at the South Point Bowling Plaza on Tuesday.
Webber earned the No. 1 seed after dominating qualifying and didn't lose a match on their way to the men’s championship, knocking off Urbana in the finals, 3-1, which included a Baker 300 in the clinching game of the best-of-five format.
Webber, who rolled a Baker 296 game to clinch their semifinal victory versus Wichita State (3-1), also defeated Newman (3-1) and Pikeville (3-2) on its way to the win.
Midland, the No. 2 seed, swept Webber to claim the women’s title, 3-0, firing games of 267, 278 and 232 on the way to the win. Midland also bested Calumet (3-1) and Baker (3-0) on the its way through bracket play.
The tournament featured nine qualifying games Monday and Tuesday to determine the top 16 men’s and top eight women’s teams for Tuesday’s bracket matches.
Individually, Webber’s Matt Russo captured the men’s title with an astounding nine-game total of 2,260, an average of 251.1. Russo also tossed one of four 300 games during Monday’s qualifying block. St. Francis-Illinois’ Robert Kicmal took second with 2,121, while Nevada-Las Vegas’ Dallas Leong and Midland’s Morgan Moore tied for third with 2,095. Wichita State’s Jacob Kersten (2,081) also earned a spot on the men’s all-tournament team.
On the women’s side, Midland’s Brittney Schnicke claimed the individual title after averaging 231.67 for nine games, a total of 2,085. St. Francis-Illinois’ Abby Ragsdale finished second (2,003), Webber’s Caitlyn Johnson (1,943) took third and Newman’s Ashton Anderson and Wichita State's Sierra Ciesolka (1,919) tied for fourth to round out the women’s all-tournament team.
Some of the best collegiate bowlers in the nation will hit the lanes again Wednesday as the action continues at the Collegiate Shoot-Out, which kicks off at Gold Coast at 11:15 a.m. Eastern. BowlTV, the USBC YouTube channel will provide wire-to-wire coverage of the event.
