Webber men, Pikeville women lead Hoosier Classic

INDIANAPOLIS - The Webber International men and Pikeville women lead after the first day of qualifying at the 2016 Hoosier Classic, the final Tier 1 event in the 2015-16 United States Bowling Congress Collegiate season, in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Webber paced the 78-team men's field at Western Bowl after posting a six-game total of 6,342, a 211.4 team average. Calumet finished the day in second with 6,322, while Lindenwood (6,222), Vincennes (6,187) and Wisconsin-Whitewater (6,124) round out the top five.

Individually, Webber's Andrew Anderson averaged more than 237 to lead the men's field with a 1,423 total. Calumet's Michael Davidson sits in second with 1,407 and is joined in the top five by Vincennes' Tyler Perry (1,372), Wisconsin-Whitewater's Zach Woelfel (1,340) and Urbana's Eric Bator (1,305).

On the women's side, Pikeville rolled into the lead of the 66-team field with a six-game block of 6,198 (206.6 team average). Two-time defending Hoosier Classic champion Wichita State is second with 6,153. Newman (6,043), Emmanuel (5,955) and Lindenwood (5,851) complete the top five.

Emmanuel's Destiny Harper and Newman's Caycee Landers are tied at the top of the women's individual leaderboard with 1,355 (225.8 average). Ursuline's Rachael Albright is third with 1,313, while Pikeville's Katelyn Simpson (1,310) and Florida State's Krystina Nealon (1,307) are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Competition will continue Sunday with the final three-game block of men's qualifying at 7:30 a.m. Eastern, followed by the women's final block at 12:30 p.m. EST. The top eight men's and top eight women's teams after nine games of qualifying will advance to the match-play Baker bracket to determine the tournament champion.

The final round of men's qualifying and both match-play brackets will be broadcast live on BOWL.com's BowlTV. The men's bracket is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. EST, while the women's bracket is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST.
