July 20, 2015
WICHITA, Kansas - The Professional Women's Bowling Association Tour heads to Wichita, Kansas, this week where a vibrant, bowling-savvy community will embrace the competitors for the PWBA Wichita Open.
Wichita will welcome the best female bowlers in the world this week at Northrock Lanes. The players will take part in 12 games of qualifying Friday before the top 16 advance to round-robin match play Saturday.
The event concludes with the stepladder finals at 6:30 p.m. Central on Saturday. All rounds will be broadcast live on Xtra Frame.
PWBA spokesperson Kelly Kulick visited Wichita in April to do the color commentary for the XBowling Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships TV finals and has been anxious to visit the area ever since.
"From the fans to the competitive bowlers to the local media support, Wichita is a great city to host a PWBA Tour event," Kulick said. "I've been looking forward to returning to Wichita since it hosted the collegiate championships in April."
Wichita is also home to the strong college bowling programs at Wichita State and Newman. The past two PWBA Tour events have been won by past Wichita State stars with Elysia Current winning the PWBA Storm Sacramento Open and Jazreel Tan taking the PWBA Lubbock Sports Open.
The PWBA Tour ceased operations in 2003 and has been rejuvenated this year thanks to the support from the bowling industry. The PWBA Wichita Open is one of 11 events being held this season.
