Williams leads PTQ for Southern Indiana Open, 15 advance into main field

CLARKSVILLE, Indiana – Fifteen competitors advanced to the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour Southern Indiana Open after Thursday morning’s pre-tournament qualifier, led by Jenna Wiliams of Homosassa, Florida, who averaged over 239 for six games at Blackiston Bowl in Clarksville, Indiana.
Willams, in her rookie season, is making the transition to the professional circuit after five years of collegiate bowling at Mount Mercy University and Webber International and is one of the up-and-coming talents trying to make their mark on the PWBA.
“It’s cool to see so many familiar faces that I bowled against in college,” Williams said. “It makes the transition a little easier.”
Williams’ goal this season and over the next few years is simple, and she has the opportunity this week to achieve one.
“I just want to make a couple shows and hopefully be able to win a title.”
In second right behind Williams was Megan Duff of Dayton, Ohio, who had a six-game total of 1,428. Avery Domaguin of San Diego, California (1,395); Olivia Farwell of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania (1,323) and Gazmine Mason of Cranston, Rhode Island (1,310), took third through fifth, respectively.
Joining the aforementioned players into the tournament proper are the following: Brittney Turcotte of Louisville, Kentucky; Crystal Elliott of Palm Bay, Florida; Melissa Kammerer of Staten Island, New York; Lauren Tomaszewski of Franklin, Tennessee; Sweden’s Anneli Blomqvist; Madison Janack of Wichita, Kansas; Singapore’s Daphne Tan; Cassidy Courey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Giselle Poss of Chicago, Illinois, and Olivia Komorowski of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
With the field now set for tournament competition, 85 bowlers will return Friday morning at 10 a.m. Eastern for the first of two six-game qualifying blocks, the second at 5 p.m. Eastern. After 12 games, the top third of the field will advance to a third six-game qualifying block on Saturday at 9 a.m. before a final cut to 12 at 2 p.m. Eastern later that day for the fourth and final block of qualifying.
At 6:30 p.m. Eastern, the top five after qualifying will advance to the stepladder finals to determine the champion of the Southern Indiana Open. All rounds of qualifying and stepladder finals will be streamed live only on BowlTV.
