Wisconsin bowler leads Standard All-Events at 2026 Open Championships

RENO, Nev. – Derek Nyman of Brodhead, Wisconsin, averaged more than 222 during doubles and singles Friday at the 2026 United States Bowling Congress Open Championships to take over the top spot in Standard All-Events by three pins.

The 38-year-old right-hander rolled sets of 670 in doubles, 665 in singles and 595 in team to finish with an all-events tally of 1,930 at the National Bowling Stadium. William Geraghty of Orland Park, Illinois, previously held the lead with 1,927.

Nyman was cruising toward the top of the leaderboard after posting games of 200, 222 and 248 in doubles and 245 and 257 to start singles. His pace slowed down during his final game, though, with two early opens.

After a spare in the ninth frame, Nyman needed a mark for the chance to go around Geraghty’s number. He connected for a strike on his first delivery and toppled enough pins to close the frame to secure his spot.
