Minnesota team soars to Ruby lead at 2019 USBC Women's Championships

WICHITA, Kan. - The members of Garden Center Lanes 2 of Alexandria, Minnesota, used the momentum of a strong second game to propel themselves to the top of the leaderboard in Ruby Team at the 2019 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships.
After starting team competition Friday at Northrock Lanes with a 638 game, Garden Center Lanes 2 nearly improved by 200 pins in Game 2, firing 825. The team finished with 712 to claim the lead, posting a 2,175 total to surpass Dream Team of Nevada City, California, which previously led with 2,116.
Amy Dawson led the way for Garden Center Lanes 2, rolling a 611 series. She was joined in the effort by Heidi Hansen (539), Ashley Ohlrogge (519) and Michelle Winter (506).
A total of six teams represented the Garden Center Lanes contingent at this year's USBC Women's Championships. Hansen, who made her seventh tournament appearance, said the group has been competing together for some time, but that the teams are not always the same.
"Sue (Brede) is our coordinator," Hansen said. "She throws the teams together and mixes us up. Sometimes, we're together. Sometimes, we're not."
The combination found on the lanes in 2019 certainly worked out, and the team was excited and ecstatic to move into the top spot.
Regardless of the outcome on the scoreboard, however, this group always walks away from the event with a story to remember.
"Every tournament with these gals is memorable," said Winter, who made her sixth Women's Championships appearance.
Ruby Team consists of bowlers with combined entering averages between 650 and 724.
